I am 11 weeks pregnant and have begun to "pop out"...the problem is that I notice myself unconsciously sucking in my belly. Maybe I do this to suck in my gut all the time anyway. Who knows? My abs are sore like I've been doing sit-ups. Is this normal?

Remember folks....unconsciously means that I'm not doing it on purpose. I am super excited and happy about this pregnancy. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this and how they handled it.

And no, I am not some skinny girl that is obsessed with exercise or anything like that. I'm an average sized woman. Like I said, I'm not even aware I'm doing it. I just realize I'm doing it every now and then and I stop. I guess I must really be in the minority here.

I love how people take the time to answer without even fully reading the question. lol.
I did the same think constantly up until around my 14th week. I've always kept my stomach muscles pulled in, probably to help with posture and I've always had a little pooch. Now that I am 19 weeks it's impossible to even hold it in and Im much more comfortable and aware that I need to just let it all hang out. :) Just keep reminding yourself to relax and let your tummy be natural...believe me, its so much more comfortable!!

I had my son 6 months ago and my pregnancy with him is still fresh to the memory. I am already self consious about my body and I did this too ... its not good but its not bad... my baby came out wonderfully and I have yet to hear of this causing any prospective injuries... I would just try to control it the best way you can.. and now that your abs are hurting it shouldn't be hard lol... Good luck you are in for the thrill of your life.. this is merely a milestone I wouldn't consider it a complication ;)

Its ok to continue to use your stomach muscles, and I imagine that you are NOT sucking in so much as you are just keeping your tummy muscles taught. Its ok, you're going to need those muscles along w/ some more important ones, come delivery time. So long as you aren't having trouble breathing you should be ok...there will become a time when the baby bump will make it too hard for you to suck in, thats just the law of physics...lol.

I wouldn't worry about it. My midwife said I could do sit-ups and exercise unless it felt wrong! I'm 11 weeks too and just popped out myself. I wish I could hold my stomach in! I just feel lazy and it hangs out. Haha. This is my second baby. Anyways, good luck! I'm due July 1st...

You might want to refrain from doing this, if i remember sit ups are not good for you while pregnant. Your belly is going to get big just let it go. The baby has to have room to grow.

That used to happen to me too...I guess is just weird having your belly to pop without being used to it (this is my 1st pg) and I do had the habit to suck my (little) tummy in when I wasn't.....you'll get used to the feeling and will learn to love that big round belly...trust me.

I wouldn't be doing a lot of sit ups - you are pregnant and are naturally going to start to "pop out". Enjoy it and don't suck it in. You are carrying a miracle inside of you and should certainly be proud of it and show off your growing belly.
Congratulations and good luck! :)

your abs are sore because your stomach muscles are stretching. and if you have tight abdominal muscles from excercise it might burn more then a loose stomach muscle.
as far as sucking in? Are you affraid of weight gain or having that belly. You are talking to the woman who likes the baby not the body. I understand. You can walk and stay tone, it is a part of pregnancy.

`oh my gosh i suck in my belly too. i think its bad at the early stages and apparantly you squash their head but later on as in 30-40 weeks then its ok to suck it in, not toooooooooooo much but apparantly its like hugging your baby

maybe you do it cause you're worried people will think you've gained weight? If they do, who cares! Let that belly pop out and be proud you're carrying that little one!!!!! :)
