if so, do you try to play them still?

Did you buy them new, or did you find them second hand or get them from others?

Do you have a player around someplace?

Do you know how to fix the splices and pads if you had to?

Do they amuse you?

(I have a small pile of Jazz and some old skool disco 8 track tapes I bought at a junk shop along with a player, and my tapes are in this cool looking fake alligator style case. My player works great, and listening to music this way once in awhile amuses me and my buds.)

For anyone seeking a player for your old 8 tracks...
They usually have a ton of players on Ebay, many of them have been restored or tested to work, and many of them can be had for around 20 bucks or less including shipping.

Yes. I own quite a few and play them often. I buy them new, used and have a few that were passed down. I do know how to fix splices and pads, and done it quite a few times. It's exciting for me to find 8 Tracks that I've been looking for or never thought I'd find. I get a lot of strange looks sometimes when I mention 8 Tracks in a positive way, but for me - it's just another way to listen to music.

And racer 51, I'd be more than happy to transfer your 8 Tracks to CD if you'd be interested.

Little known fact: Contrary to popular belief, 8 Tracks didn't die in the late 70's - early 80's. They were still being manufactured as late as 1988 by Columbia House. So you can probably find some albums throughout most of the 80's on 8 Track. Also, a lot of underground bands who are Pro - 8 Track will release their albums on 8 Track even today.

Still have a couple in a box downstairs. I think maybe a Led Zeppelin, and a Cream. Bought the Zeppelin new, I think the Cream was abandoned at my house, don't remember by who. At one point I probably had 20 or 30, but I remember giving a box of them to a neighbor for a church rummage sale.

Haven't had a working player in years. Never owned a home player, just in vehicles, and the last car I had that had an 8 track in it was a 73 Chevy truck with an under-dash unit.

I used to own a splice block, and could probably still fix one if I had to

My kids would probably laugh at me if I dug them out and showed them. Kind of like the old 8 1/2 inch floppies I keep just for show.

No, don't still own any...not that I ever did. My mom and grandparents did. I used to get a crack out of pressing the buttons to make the tracks play. I'd make my own melodies by the clicking sound of the button.

I think if those existed today people would be mad...there were only 4 songs on each 8 track.

Oh yeah, I remember. When the channels would cross we used to put a matchbook under the tape to make it play right. I can still listen to stuff on disc and remember the part where songs would fade out and switch tracks.
