The chess sets and the medieval items are all in one room. There is chain mall, swords , and figures. There are about 25 chess sets. The trains are engines, buildings and people.

First of all - DO NOT CLEAN ANYTHING!!! Collectables are always worth more in their original condition even if it means there is some dirt or signs of disrepair.
The second worst thing you could do is sell them without knowing what they are worth. How would you know if you are getting a fair price? Do some research to try and determine the value of his collection.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Ebay might be worth a shot but I think you may do better looking for specialist auctions. I don't know where you live but in the UK there are several specialist Model railway magazines who may offer a classified ad section or give information on specialist shops. No doubt there is specialist magazines for all those areas. Try asking in your local newsagents or doing an internet search.
It sounds like your husband was quite a collector. It'll probably be a mammoth task rehoming all his things but I'm sure you will get great comfort from knowing they are going to somebody who will enjoy them as much as he obviously did.

I would try ebay. Not knowing where you live, it may be hard to sell those items locally. If you late husband was a member of a chess club, masonic lodge, or the like you might call one of their members and spread the word. Nice part about that, if they knew your husband, they will give you a very fair price for the items and are less likely to rip you off.

First get some knowledge of your items.Check e-bay and other web sites for similar items.You should know what you have.Some may be valuable but others just look nice.Trains and older sets like Lionel are usually easy to sell but things like armour and chain mail may not find a buyer as quickly.As a widow all I can say is just -be aware of your items.

You can always call an antique dealer and get an estimate. Many times, they will offer free inspection of the items and give free estimates.
I wouldn't try to sell them on eBay until you are certain you know all of the information about them, and then, I'd get an eBay expert to help you.
Although many eBay experts charge out the wazoo for their help, there are always those who will help you free of charge (like me). I'll leave you my email in case you wish to go that route.

either on a selling site like ebay or if they are old sets try and find a specialist for those games or take to an auction.
