The ones with Johnny Depp in them.

Action: Nick of Time, Blow
Adventure: I'm not sure of the difference, but Dead Man would certainly qualify.
Comedy: Benny and Joon, Edward Scissorhands

Can't help you with animation; don't think he's ever done any.

For action, go with Kill Bill, but only Volume 1. It's certainly the best action flick I've seen in recent years.
Adventure? Raiders of the Lost Ark. Often imitated, never bettered.
My favourite comedy flick is still Airplane, for the sheer number of gags. You cannot watch this movie without laughing.
Animated? Either Toy Story 2 or The Incredibles. Both made by Pixar and both better than most live action movies out today.

That's why buy the movie..If when it does show on TV, you can pulled out the DVD and play it. Remember the commercials are paying for the networks. So I believe that the networks can edit movies and get a way with it
