It's the birth of our Lord and Saviour, and we should not forget the purpose of why he was born, it was because God loved us so that He sacrificed his only son for us, so that we may all be saved. Just think of the kind of sacrifice that is. Could you do it?
I don't care what other people have made Christmas out to be, that is the true meaning of Christmas, and as Christians, we should be like Jesus, and do for our fellow neighbours....for as Jesus said: Whatever you do for the least of your brothers, you do for me.
To me that means this is the time of year that you help others if you can. We all have it in us, but we rarely do. However, once you give you realize it brings so much more satisfaction than receiving...even if you have very little to give it's that much more precious in God's eyes.
