If this one of them older Ni-Cd batteries, then you should trash the battery, because it is probably way past its charging life cycle. The newer Ni-MH batteries hold a better charge and last longer, but they too don't last forever. Most likely, your battery has exceeded its charging life and needs to be replaced. Also, don't keep your AC adapter connected to your laptop all the time, as that too shortens the battery life.

It happens, unfortunately. You'll need a new one. Always fully discharge and recharge at least every month, don't run it off the mains while the battery is only half flat as it's trickle-charging from a half charge. It's a good idea to get 2 or 3 batteries (i know they can be expensive - but they only become more expensive) and rotate through them.

If you leave your laptop plugged in all or most of the time for a year or more then the battery will lose its ability to charge up fully. I think the only thing to do is buy a new battery. Sorry.

I think you might have been having your battery attached to your laptop while it is directly powered. This deteriorates the battery life to a great extend.
