Insurance companies aren't known for their liberal leanings. Why would they push the govt. for a coherent policy on greenhouse gas emission?

Good point yupchagee but the point is that many companies have changed their policy from higher rates for coastal properties to not offering coverage and the cited reason is coastal flooding due to global warming. Read the link. If it's all a big fake wouldn't the insurance companies just ignore it?

I don't think that Global Warming is fake.
I think it could be, and that there is not enough evidence to conclude for either side. Therefore I don't think that drastic measures should be taken that will severely harm our economy.

That said, there are many moderate measures that can be taken just in case it is true that we are causing tempatures to rise.

Personally, I drive a small gas efficient car, walk when I can, turn out lights when I leave a room, and will purcahse a hybrid as soon as I can afford one.

It doesn't take global warming to be responsible for hurricanes. 2005 was a big hurricane year, with Katrina and others, and of course global warming was blamed.

2006 was an extremely mild hurricane year. Is global warming to blame for that too?

The earth naturally goes through cycles. We have gone through a long period of relatively benign climate (storm wise), but hurricanes have been much more savage in the past as well, back in the first half of the 20th century.

Insurance companies are denying coverage because they've been burned by the large claims after 1 big storm hits.

Are insurance companies actually pushing for greenhouse gas reductions? If so, why not. It doesn't cost them anything if global warming is incorrect, but it would save them if it is true. I'd do the same if I were them too.

Because insurance companies are cheap and had to dish out a lot of money for both Louisiana and Florida. Coastal properties are a high risk, and insurance companies are only concerned about their pocket book; I don't care what anyone else says. And Global Warming is a joke. Seriously.

It has nothing to do with global warming. They don not deny the
insurance to people who live in coastal areas, they just charge
a lot more for it, and they have been since the first insurance
started.

I f you live on the coast or in a river flood plain you either pay
more or you are not insured for flooding.

To doomsday, what hurricanes?

Thank you very much, while you're up!!!!

So a few companies incentivize green policies - that's not a trend.

As for coastal properties - after the baths they took in the recent high-activity hurricane cycle, why wouldn't they shy away?

Personally, I'd like to see the federal government shy away from insuring these risky properties with MY money. Why should I have to assume the risk of these coastal properties? Time for people to pull their own weight.

Wow, now that’s a inspiration. IF coverage businesses did “that”, probably we wouldn’t want “Healthcare Reform”. There used to be a exhibit on PBS a even as again addressing how coverage businesses manage pre-present stipulations. They had an interview with an coverage organization’s CEO who used to be denied by way of his possess organization because of “pre-present stipulations”. He inspiration it used to be flawed, however condoned the train on the grounds that no longer doing so, might imply the stockholders might no longer make as so much in dividends. How unhappy it's, that folks placed benefit earlier than even their possess well being.

Insurance companies are in the business of making money, not insuring your loses. Dont expect any action from them to benefit society unless there is an immediate and substantial financial reward for the insurance industry.

I believe global warming is very real. Maybe one day the non-believers will do their own research and come to a conclusion, rather than listen to government paid climatologist or media driven information.

They always have been reluctant to provide such coverage. Those areas are more vulnerable. They also don't sell life insurance to people who are terminally ill.

They should deny insurance to farmers, because they have cows and they produce the most CO2 damaging ozone thingy stuff.

I eat meat, do you?
