Do good and bad dreams really predict your future or do they come from some experience in life?

Dreams are a way for your unconscious mind to try to solve problems of the conscious mind. Dream language and symbolism are a little weird because the brain scrambles the images and sounds a bit. For example, if you dreamed you were buying a neighbor's house it might mean that you were simply thinking about buying a house, and a dream about being on an elevator might mean you are trying to "elevate" your status at work or that you are trying to "elevate" your grades at school. Dreams are hard to interpret for somebody else unless you know the person's life rather well, because if you don't it is easy to miss the symbolism that occurs in an individuals dream and no one elses. I just had a dream that I was looking for some money so a neighbor lady could go out dancing, and that by finding the extra cash she might give me a better deal on her house. While waking I realized that this woman is now deceased, and I no longer live in the same town, so who knows what the dream means, other than it might mean I should buy my neighbors house!

I don't believe dreams predict the future. Dreams are an attempt by the subconscious brain to make sense of what the conscious brain does during the day while the subconscious is in the background and the concious mind is in charge.

During sleep the subconscious mind is in charge and tries to make sense of our conscious actions. To try to make sense of dreams is an attempt to understand the motivations and the thought process of the subconscious mind.

It is very rare for someone to have predictive dreams. Usually dream content is less important than the emotions you feel in the dreams. You will usually learn more by analyzing the emotion and the content together and looking at why you felt that way in that situation and how it may relate (literally or metaphorically) to your waking life.

My friend has a book on the meanings of dreams and I went through it one time. Mostly the stuff it told me was either utterly contradictory (like you won't have children / you will have 6) or really random. Like apparently dreaming about a horse that is walking means something to do with future unrequited love?? And how do they decide these things anyway?

I do agree that a lot of the time though you do dream about things in your subconscious or things you are worrying about.

I think dreams reveal your subconscious. For example: If you dream you are naked in public, it could mean you are hiding something. Another simple example: When you have a dream that you are falling (you know, the annoying ones that wake you up), it simply means that you are "falling" asleep.

I did dream that my son was a boy twice before I found out his sex. I wanted a girl, so that could have been predictive.

Some dreams - deja vu - predict the future. Others are messages from your subconscious. They do have significance, and it is always important to remember that when trying to analyze them.

Dreams are the result of your brain processing the information it receives during the day. This could be experiences and emotions. If you are not dealing with a perticular strong emotion, your brain might process it in the form of a dream.

Yes, your dreams have significance for you. They are inside of you, not outside. The are an admixture of your life experience. Which is why you are the best person to interpret your dreams.

Dreams are a mixture of things you saw through out the day with things that are in your subconscience
