onions and garlic are perfectly fine while you are pregnant. so feel free to eat them, i am 8 months pregnant and i have always aten them and i have a healthy pregnancy. I dont see why onions would hurt you or "stimulate the uterous" the only reason why someone might say to stay away from them is if you get sick from the smell while you have morning sickness. and garlic is really good for you while pregnant, and anytime, because garlic helps get all of the bad germs and stuff out of your body. and the bad toxins, it also helps build your amune system. I too got nervous about what to eat and what not to eat while pregnant. but just incase you dont know, here is a list of some foods that you should stay away from because they can contain listeria in them (listeria is something that pregnant women can get, and it can harm the baby and it can harm the pregnant woman, there is usually no symptoms when one has this.)
raw eggs- anything that has eggs in it that hasnt been cooked like, some miracle whips, egg nog, or just undercooked eggs are bad. and when you are cooking eggs, make sure that they are hard all the way through, (dont eat eggs that are sunny side up (yolky)).
undercooked meats- make sure that you always cook your meats until steaming hot before you eat them. dont eat things like lunch meats, hot dogs or any meat with out them being cooked first.
cheese- stay away from soft cheese while you are pregnant such as, brie, chambert, muenster, and cheeses that have not been pasturized. safe cheeses you can eat are cheeses like motserella, cheddar, cheese slices, monterery and colby jack, cottage cheese, cream cheese.
milk- make sure that all milk you drink is pasturized, dont drink milk if it hasnt been.
some other things that you might want to stay away from is splenda, and other artificial sweeteners. my doctor told me to stay away from those because they could possably hurt the baby, so im not allowed to drink things like diet coke, flavored water (due to the fact they have artificial sweeteners)
and caffeine- caffeine is found in pop, chocolate milk, and chocolate candy, sometimes can be in other things. you should almost always try to stay away from this while you are pregnant. my doctor told me that i can have up to two cups of caffeine a day.
if you have a headache or something the only kind of medicine that is really known safe is tylenol, but make sure that it is regular strength!
thats about all. i hope that i helped, and i know that i answered more than just your question, lol but i hope you read through that all, and are more careful about what you eat so you can protect that beautiful baby inside you! Good Luck and Congratulations!

RE:
Is it safe to eat onions and garlic while pregnant? I was browsing on the net and this is what I found...?
THERE WAS THIS COMMENT
~ Pregnant women try not to eat foods with strong smells (like garlic, onions, etc), to avoid nausea. Apart from this comment, I also read that they stimulate the uterus! Do you think this harms the fetus?
Do you think I should not eat them? Did you used to eat them when...

I love onions. I cook almost everything with them. I did with my first daughter and I do it now that I'm pregnant with my second daughter. All that is a bunch of crock. If garlic and onion stimulated the uterus then more women would go into labor everyday than normal. Eat what u want in moderation.

I love both, and ate them throughout my pregnancy- no problems and a very healthy baby. There are certain foods that will make you nauseous- I worked at a stir-fry place, and all of the different sauces, and seafoods made me very nauseous I had to try to stay away from the area they were located for a while. So if something makes you nauseous, just avoid it, doesn' t really mean you can't eat it though if you can handle it... I personally think foods that actually do make you nauseous do for a reason- maybe to avoid them, you don't need them... and ones you crave, your baby is taking those nutrients away from you, so eat away! I found that alcohol (i used to drink, but not since I became pregnant) really made me nauseous- serving it made me want to puke.. lol So things like that make you nauseous for a reason-to stay away from... I think at least. If you don't mind the smell of onion and garlic, then eat them if you like them! :) Goodluck and congrats!

I ate lots of garlic, onions and even ginger while I was pregnant and never had any problems. In fact, they have lots of minerals and vitamins that are good for the mother. They don't harm the fetus at all , I had a healthy beautiful baby boy.

ok my family is ITALIAN and as you know we love our garlic...I put it in everything! This is now my third pregnancy and let me tell ya if it stimulates the uterus then I should have gone in to labor way before my due date because I eat garlic and onions almost everyday!! My first son was 2 weeks late and my second son was a day early after being induced!!! So I would say it doesn't affect the baby..besides garlic is a natural immune system booster!! GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS

i don't know about he nausea part (it might be true), but harming the fetus? Unlikely. All I have craved for the last month is onions! Onions on my burger, pickled onions, you name it...and how many italian dishes can you eat without garlic? It's not gonna hurt the baby, trust me. My daughter is healthy as can be (and due in 7 weeks), so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mention it to your doctor on your next appointment.

I ate spicy foods, garlic, onions and all that when I was pregnant and I have a healthy baby girl. I say you're fine to eat those things if they don't upset your stomach.
