I've been meaning to ask people this for ages but could never be ar$ed until now.Do you remember Girls Aloud's debut single, Sound of The Underground? Well, they weren't on about the tube. Did anyone else find it a somewhat ironic title? This 100% manufactured pop quintet, put together by a ''reality" show, launch their career by singing about a movement from which they couldn't be much further removed?!
Or am I alone in my rock snobbery?
(I actually don't mind Girls Aloud - good on 'em. I just thought the title of their debut single was pretty funny under the circumstances.)

I do think the girls can sing, and they've lasted a lot longer than anyone else out of those shows, apart from Will Young. The title's still an oxymoron when it's next to their name, though!

Re: jo's comment: "i think, by underground they were referring to a way of life that's a bit underground and not mainstream, who knows though!"
Jo, that's why I found the title so funny! Reality tv lifestyle... not quite ''underground'' in any sense of the word. :-)

no that's true. i agree. do you remember the boyband 'five'? their debut single was called 'slam dunk' (which is so obviously related to basketball) anyway the video to that song was all about boxing.

so therefore, i join you in your rock snobbery!( i like rock!)

I thought that too when it came out. They wouldn't know what the "underground" was if it came up and bit them!
I hate manufactured pop, and I hate those noisy bints even more. They're just fame hungry girls who couldn't care less about music. They just want to look good in front of a camera. I'd be too repulsed to do anything with any of these stuck up, self centred bints!
Grrrrr! I hate 'em!

Interesting. Actually, when I read your question, I thought you were referring to the Digital Underground song. Same title I believe. It's awesome. Check it out. Old school at it's finest.

I loved "Sounds of the underground", Those girls sing well, just a pity they are quite spiteful and tend to have something nasty to say about other celebs. That has brought them right down in my estimation.
