1st- .avi's are usually DivX (a pay for use app-easy to use) or XVid (freeware but difficult to master). These wont play on standard DVD players unless they say DivX Certified. They will have to be converted to a standard MPEG using software like Nero Vision.

2nd-All MPEGS are not DVD compliant.

3rd-To shrink the movies, use DVDShrink. The easiest ripper is 1ClickDVDCopy. It'll rip and shrink the movie automatically.

4th-Most players wont read a dvd-rw. Just use dvd-r's.
5th-Dump limewire and use a bittorrent client like utorrent.

Good luck....

What software are you using to burn? Try using DIKO, it's cheap and works very well. Nero also works great, but is expensive.
