I noticed that over the years I have developed a tendency to not be able to laugh as much as I used to (sounds odd)

I rarely laugh and when I do it's normally fake laughing or over something really, really, stupid.

When I do see something thats totally funny on TV I laugh to myself unlike other people who laugh out loud.

I either put it down to the fact that I have a very dry or dark sense of humour or I believe I may have lost my sense of humour completely as I suffer from mild depression.

I'm being serious about this so no piss-taking answers please!!

you might have some underlying issues that are making you feel the way you do. if your worried or stressed then this can cause you to feel the way you do and not laugh so much. you might need to talk to a professional to understand what is exactly stopping you from being able to express yourself with laughter.

People who have heart problems---dont like to laugh. After my husband had a heart attack, he found nothing funny. Then I came across an article about heart patients and laughing...they dont like to laugh, there is depression involved. If I had a heart attack and lived through it, the incident would be with me for a long time at least bits and pieces. They probably worry about the next one. That does not help. Have your cholesterol checked...get on meds if they can help...
Sometimes I believe that the body takes a time out or rest when we need to sit back and look slowly at life in general change routine....

in the beginning, enable me say you have a sturdy coronary heart. 2d of all, with each sturdy element you do, your advantages is the delight which you will help, and that's like a drug, you prefer to do greater. no longer that that's undesirable, yet on occasion this finally ends up in chasing rainbows. Get a certainty examine, and regroup. Plus, you're able to desire to look after #a million as a manner to be waiting to function that way. And secondly, attempt to no longer take your self too heavily. In existence, the superb source you could own is the skill for adaptability. You get that, you will no longer hit such greater than a number of partitions, as a replace the partitions will substitute into opportunities, or in basic terms a detour sign. save on doing all your element, and be specific you're taking a deep breath if it gets too overwhelming. The world is not funny at these times and the sense of being made a fool has often taken my humor away. learning how to laugh with another means i have to see life as they do , in reality, I really just needed a friend. when i started finding my own sense of humor toward those who once saw me as funny the view changed for me. I could then use word play and that tickled my brain, like a feather. I would say. play with words, just like we did when we were children playing with building blocks of the alphabet. I even looked at myself in a mirror in a true state of depression and i could not look at myself for long. and I found a real funny bone that I think on often. It's in there buried like a dog bone, search and you will find, please take no offense in my choice of words. have faith that you will find what you are in need of.

I hardly laugh, either, but I'm not really depressed or anything. I get bummed out sometimes, but everyone does. I don't know, it just takes very specific (or just INCREDIBLY funny) things to make me laugh. In fact, I LOVE comedy, I just don't legitimately laugh most of the time. I think everyone's senses of humor are different, and it just takes specific things to get to them.

PS - "Really, really stupid" things are the BEST things to laugh at. I laughed at the word "Mexican" once for two hours.

It's probably related to your depression. Things just aren't funny when you're depressed. If you're not already seeing a counselor for your depression, try doing so. Since in your case it's mild, you'll probably only need 6-8 sessions but you'll find it will make a big difference in many aspects of your life.

I think you may just be getting older, call it more mature. As time goes by you won't get as excited about things. I'm 58 and frankly find it relaxing at times. My mother is in very good shape for somebody who's scheduled to turn 95 next month, and she was the super-intelligent worry wart. She lets everybody else worry about things these days.

Depression will definitely take the edge off your sense of humor and rob you of your joy. I don't know if we ever know how deep our depression is ...because we are in the middle of it. Please google "EMDR" It did absolute wonders for my life. Also, if you are lucky enough that the short description of it from 60 minutes is still on-line it is well worth watching and only about12 min long.
