Well, it depends on the charity. If the 'charity' is a front for a terrorist group or run by a terrorist group, like Hizbollah or Hamas, then it should be prohibited.

There are plenty of legitimate Islamic charities that are not in bed with terrorists. Those should not be, and are not, prohibited.

I feel with any charity it is a personal decision to make. And as with any charity I would do my own research on it before I ever donated to it. When I was younger I donated to lot's of different charities, but it just got to be too much and I think they sell your name, since once I started donating I started getting more calls from other organizations asking for a donation.

But now with all kinds of scams and unscrupulous people embezzling the money, I feel strongly about doing my homework on an organization before donating to them.

It depends if they can show these funds are being used to fund, train, or transport terrorists and/or terrorist activities. there are lots of muslims around teh world who live in grinding poverty, that is how their autocratic rulers keep them under control, and any aid has to go through them, for a percentage of course. So there is a genuine need for help/aid without it being used to kill people. There are many organizations such as UNICEF and the like that distribute aid to ALL people in poverty, not just members of one religion, and I'd rather give to them than one run by a specifically Christian-for-Christians only or episcopalian for episcopalians only. Help all the needy without forcing religion on them is my personal view. No the government isn't or won't stop all muslim charities, just the ones they can prove in court are doing bad things with the money. This is a separation of church and state issue, it would be no more wrong for them to shut down any cathoilic fund that was funding the IRA, which is just as evil in my book.

Are all Muslims against the U.S ? Why should many suffer for the actions of a few ? Some street people have committed murder -does that mean we should shut down all the shelters and soup kitchens ?

I can sort of see why some people would say yes, but I would have to say no. After all, it would be a form of religious discrimination, and the First Amendment guarantees religious freedom to US citizens.

No people have the right to give their money to whomever they want unless they are designated terrorists. I myself dont do it because I dont know what chain that money goes up too, so I sleep easier at night not giving money to muslim charities.

That would violate the 1st amendment. We should (& I think do) keep a VERY close eye on such "charities".

What about genuine charitable causes? It gets hard to say no to one and not another

YES! The American Government is too concerned about feelings and we need to be more concerned about supporting people who will cut our heads off.##
