Why is it that some of the people who answer questions on here are so mean and heartless. Why would anyone tell a person who is struggling with an issue to go dig a hole and sit in it? Can't people be nice anymore? What is the point of always being an asshole?

Some people are just bored and get a rush from being cruel when no one can punish them for it.
I feel like part of the problem is generally our society. Technology has really changed the scope of our values in recent years. With all the mindless crap on tv (reality shows for one) and the internet and video games like Grand Theft Auto- kids today are growing up with a lot less respect for people and they are desensitized to a lot things. Also, a lot of parents are allowing their children to do this junk at a younger age so they are much worse by the time they reach 15 than by the time someone born in '84 reached 15. 7 year olds play grand theft auto for christ's sake. Until parents can begin raising their children properly again and taking the blame themselves instead of blaming it on media- our society will continue to slide downhill. By the way- I'm totally not against the media I mentioned above (except reality tv) I LOVE watching ppl play grand theft auto and I love shows like south park, etc. I just think it's ridiculous that parents are allowing young children around this junk.
So until our society can take some responsibility in it's hands- we are going to have losers that sit at the computer all day on myspace and yahoo etc etc and post shitty things because it gives them a rush or makes them feel good about themselves.

This website offers an anonymous medium for people to post whatever they want. Often, it is mean, selfish, rude, or jsut plain innapropriate.
It's because this provides a place for those cowards to attack people and have no fear of repercussions. Nobody here knows who they are, what their names are, or where they live. Thus, they feel that they can be aggressive or simply uncaring, and have no effect on their true identities.
I bet most of them think they are nice people at heart!

I know exactly what you're talking about, Ive read some answers in here for people who have serious emotional issues to just go and off themselves. I think its immaturity that drives them to that. Either that or one day someone crushed their prides and now they feel they have to be assholes too to redeem themselves...

I just started here and if I seem to be rude in any manner I oppoligise, for my answers are well put with care and or sensitivity.. I mean no harm, but as for others perhaps you are asking questions that they can't answer at the time and are frustrated with it.

Just remember what your mother told you growing up - "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"!! Even if you disagree with someone's point of view, you can still be polite. But, hey... some people are just a**holes. What can you do?

unfortunately some people think it's "hilarious" to answer as you described. It's ok--everyone grows up some day. Til then, you just have to turn the other cheek and laugh at how NOT funny some people can be. that's life!

Because a lot of people are assholes, it's their nature. Which is probably why they are on here, because they don't have anybody to talk to outside in the real world.

It's the anonymity that does it. These people would probably behave the same face-to-face with somebody if it wouldn't give them a bad name.

It shows how unhappy they are with themselves and have a need to vent by being cruel to others. Pity them. I do.
