He doesn't provide any directions, and he expected me to work to his expectation. I've a feeling that he has a different agenda to get me out of the system so that he could bring the person that he would favour.

Ask him for a meeting and ask him what is your actual job description and how he wants things carried out. He is not a very good boss if he is not providing you with the information that you need in order to get your job done.

I would talk to him and have a meeting. Request a job descreption. Talk to someone higher. If that does not work, find another job!
