guessed it. They've shrunk. They now make my bum look big and they're about 1-2 inches shorter. Is there anything that can be done? I didn't want to take them to the dry cleaners, as I wanted to save money.

well if you put them in cold water , and stretch them in the water then hang them up to drip dry , once most of the water has dripped out stretch then again , and when they are almost dry iron them reverse

Nope! When I have to wash something dry clean only, I do it in the tub by hand with cold water and hang it up to dry. It's the only way! I've never been to the dry cleaners- waste of money!

Can you let down the hem? Bum looking big- no way to fix that now that they've shrunk unless you lose a few pounds, which I wouldn't recommend unless those are the only pants you wear! ha-ha

First of all, there is nothing wrong with a big bum! I would take them to the dry cleaners and see if they can let the side seams out, and then just cut them to become cropped or capris. Add a cuff at bottom for more detail.

The first answer is no there is nothing to be done but if they are cotton then it is relaxation shrinkage and it is just possible that a dry cleaner could stretch them again on his steam press. If they are wool or a wool mixture then forget it. If they are some sort of synthetic fibre it depends on what they are made of and how they were made but you have probably had it

Im afraid the only way to resolve the situation is to go buy a new pair. When you do make sure you take those to the dry cleaners.

In my experience, there is nothing to be done at this point. I lost one of my favorite jackets that had belonged to my grandmother. Hubby was trying to be helpful. It was big enough to fit a doll afterwards, and I DID take it to the dry cleaners afterward, and asked them to stretch it....to no avail.
