it's a known fact that a majority of people, especially younger people who are a prime target for news, will listen to the news when it's about a celebrity in any way.
it's about what will get the ratings. think about it, our occupying Iraq and the deaths that result from it are 1. not really as newsworthy anymore because it's a cost of war and it happens. yes, you will still hear stories about it locally but not so much on nationwide networks unless they were some form of scandal or something involves. people sign up to be solfiers knowing that they could die. it's part of the job. nobody forced them to sign up. if it were newsworthy that would be all we hear about and 2. with so many people angry that we are still occupying Iraq and the Middle East, news stations have to try and cater to them too.
and to be honest? when I lived on a Marine base growing up and my dad was away at war, I hated seeing all the news coverage and having reporters come knocking on our doors asking if we were widows or fatherless. I was young, but smart enough to know that my dad might not come home. It was awful. They had to eventually quarantine the base to keep the reporters out.
They didn't really care about us. They care about the heartwrenching stories that will get the ratings.
Good journalists do both. But reporters sometimes just need to get the story.
I mean, obviosly just because thay aren't showing those stories doesn't mean you aren't thinking about it. It's like after 9/11 when they stopped airing continuous new about it. Some people were saying that we had forgotten about all those men and women and the tragedy itself. Umm....I haven't forgotten, and I doubt that anyone in the ret of the country has either. The news is a business like any other.

Go ahead, girrrrl. I thought the same damn thing, and here's why: Steve Irwin was NOT an innocent bystander. He went LOOKING for trouble, as my Nanny used to say--and she was right. The creatures in the sea and in the jungle are there for a reason. It's where they live! Steve Irwin was, for lack of a more appropriate word, AN IDIOT. He had no business messing with those stingrays, and LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. There's no way in hell I'd let my husband, who has 2 little boys with me, go out and mess with nature. And, the kicker is, after he died all I heard was "what a brave man he was....he cared sooo much for nature....blah blah" Bullshit! If he cared so much, he would've left nature ALONE. I absolutely agree about the media's misguided direction on this one....What about the men that have died DOING WHAT THEY WERE ASKED to do by our government? The soldiers in Iraq aren't out in the ocean deliberately "taunting" stingrays to get a good story for their stupid TV show, they are FIGHTING A WAR. The media sucks.

I think you are stressing about nothing. If you don't like it, think of something else. I am tired of hearing about how the poor red legged frogs are losing their habitats, so I change the station. And sports? Enough already, this team got 5 points, that one 4 and then tomorrow it is the opposite...who really cares?

It's a pity that any child has to go through childhood without a parent. My brother lost our mom when he was 13 and I was 18. He had to go through his teenage years without a mother which really disheartened him immensely.

haven't noticed it cuz I don't watch TV but I can say the media is probably more concerned about it that her father was when he was doing what he was doing.
