I work in the square mile, but am looking to find an area to live outside london that is nice, but has great access to the city (30 minute train journey or less).

Ideally looking for an express train town that has few stops between it and London, but still has walking access to a Tescos, Sainsburys, etc. The further away from London the cheaper it is to buy a place (most of the time), so the further the better - just keep the commute low.

Cheers.

Dulwich in South London is a lovely area, and has great links by rail to London Bridge. It's practically like a little country village in the middle of great big London, and has really low crime rates considering its location.

You may also consider Hampstead just North of C.London. You've got The Heath which is super during the summertime and the Northern Line serves The City so there's your short commute. I guess this is outside London but only just.

My final recommendation would have to be Greenwich. It's on the DLR which has a direct link to Bank via Canary Wharf and if that's down you can always fall back onto the rail which has frequent trains to London Bridge - journeys shouldn't really be longer than 10 minutes on that line.

Anyway, happy house-hunting :D

Try looking in Northolt, South Harrow. i lived there for 5 years and never got any problem to get to London. There is always the inevitable, but generally is quiet, clean, 3 ways to get to central except bus. Have a look and consider!
