It's so organized I throw papers on top of it to see if it looks a little messy or "worked" but it still looks organized. What a contradiction since I'm not organized AT ALL, work gets the worst of me I guess

My favorite organizing tool is a three ring view binder with page protectors - I trim old calendars and insert them in the view cover to decorate the covers. I can just slip a few papers in the protector and when I want to look at them, I just slip them out and use them. Much easier than a three hole punch and opening the binder all the time. I label the spine so I know what is in that binder. I prefer the one inch and one 1/2 inch size over the 2 and 3 inch size. The binders are easy to organize on a bookshelf - you just have to get one that is deep enough and the shelves high enough to fit the binders. You could tear pages out of the spiral notebooks and organize them by topic by putting them in the three ring binders. Another idea would be to get a bunch of those stand up magazine holders - they come in cardboard or plastic and are about three inches wide. They could hold your note books and you could label them by year &/or topic. You could also organize them on the right sized book shelf. If you have a college nearby check their surplus store as they may have lots of cheap, fairly high quality, if used desks, files and shelves. Our local college usually has old Steel Case desks from the 50's that are wonderful to work at. They also can have office organizing supplies like in/out boxes that can be stacked an organize notebooks that you are currently working with... Organize your space around your writing style and keep what you refer to the most at your finger tips. Most people put their furniture along the wall - I tend to break up the room and create a wrap-around work space where alot of stuff is at my finger tips. Get a good rolling chair and a floor pad so you can move from one area to another. Make sure you create a computer work area as well as a writing area. I tend to have a computer work space made from a computer style desk and to the right side, at right angles have a large desk (lots of room to spread out!). To my left I have a book shelf, and next to that I have a shreader then a file cabinet. I can reach everything with just a roll of my chair... Decorate your walls with things that inspire you and make you want to spend time in that space. Wander around Goodwill or other thrift stores for cheap supplies and organizing ideas - I use cups to orgainze my pens and pencils - I have a heavy paper napkin holder that holds several folder/portfolios with current stuff - I find old square tupperware or other container to organize my drawers...

I have a nice sized office with lots of book shelves so it is very easy to stay organized. Plus, I am a neat freak so I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am very organized and detail oriented, hence the nickname persnickety, that I have been called most of my life. This doesn't mean that "piles" don't exist. It only means that I know what the piles are meant for...lol

You should just see my computer area (home)...the keyboard shelf got broke so my keyboard and mouse are on the main desk portion which is extremely cluttered. My mouse barely has any room and the chord keeps getting tangled in the phone chord.
