I personally don't like shopping unless it's necessary (groceries etc) My spouse seems to get some kind of comfort from shopping-for hiself or others. Just do not understand what it does for a person.

i hate shopping. I don't like the crowds, the rude people, workers who can't or don't want to help you, navigating through the parking lot, standing in check out lines, going from store to store looking for the best price or the one product you can't find. I can't stand it. I wish I could just shop on line.

It can be an addiction for some people. I have never really enjoyed it either. It is a good feeling to do things for others. It may be that your hubby has a need to please others. He may be discovering the joy of giving, or he may have a need to heal something inside of him. Sometimes focusing on helping others is goood and can heal us but if it is in extremes, it may be a problem. IF he lives within his means, and does not over spend, and first provides for his own needs and the needs of his family, it should be okay. If he shops and gets debt, as a result, does not provide for his own needs first, or sacrifices the well being of his family at the expense of shopping...he may need some professional counsel. Another important thing to keep in mind is...is it an act to feel good instead of facing real underlying issues? If it is then it is dangerous. Shopping for some can be like a person taking a drink of alcohol, or taking a drug etc...they are stuffing down pain and hurt and using external substances to try to feel better....these things like shopping, drinking, et al can work for awile but it ususally delays the problem to build and get larger and erupt later. If he is well balanced and there are no underlying problems...then so be it.

for some, shopping is just a necessary task, for others it is something to do, a reason to go out, a way to reduce stress, see what's new on the market, and other reasons. I'd say the only issue with shopping is if someone is throwing money around like confetti and there isn't that amount of money left to spend.

It gives them comfort. Some people shop compulsively to distract themselves. It takes their mind off about issues they don't want to deal with. A sort of a " fix ".
