1. You can most easily learn about people from who they associate with. If the person seems saintly, but the people who hang around him are extremely nasty or act like beaten animals, then that says a lot about the person. Like attracts like, you can't hide what type of people you associate with.

2. Evil is anything that interferes with the self-determination of others. If you take away someone's right to decide who they will date, or what direction the person will take in life, that is evil.

I don't personally believe in good or evil. Most people are in the dark. The light to me represents enlightenment. Very few are "enlightened" for long periods of time. We all get glimpses of the light while still in the dark and remain there til death. However, peoples actions are based on a lot of different things.
Perceptions based on Experience and action based on our own past. I don't think anyone is born "evil" or "good". We are born innocent and depending on the nature of our childhood, lays down the framework and majority of our future choices. How each individual internalizes each major childhood experience probably determines the actions later in life. Through out life we choose the light or the dark, the good or the evil.
As far as being able to tell if someone is "evil or good" that can also be based on our own experiences and perceptions. What I think is evil another may not. What I don't understand, another may. What I find to be good another may not agree. Its a hard question to answer. For me anyway. Even after reading what I just wrote..I still don't get it.

Actually, this dichotomy is totally bogus. There is no "evil" and "good" side to life. Evil and good define actions, not people. There are "bad" people who have done "good" things and vice versa.
