A friend once told me that he thought that people should try to live no farther away from their parents (and family?) than 300 miles. He lived on the east coast and they lived on the west coast. He knew exactly where his vacation (with wife and kids) would be every year and he could not get back home on a long weekend or even same day for many family events he would like to attend. Also if his parents were elderly and needed his help (in their finals days?)it would be difficult to travel cross-country for them. We live in a highly mobile world and we often have to move far away to get that really good job but being closer has its advantages. He also advised not to live on the same block or even in the same town because visiting would be too convenient. The parants would become automatic babysitters for their grandchildren even though they have their own lives too. So try to live within 300 miles but not too close was his best advice, based on his own experience.

I didn't have a childhood home so I think of Heaven's door as my starting place. I cannot touch it, but I can feel the warmth from inside.
