I can't get it to a jeweler just yet to get the size reduced. Is there something I can buy or make to put on the bottom part of the band to make it fit for the time being?

For the time being, if there is any space behind the stone you can light a candle and let the wax drip to fill it out. My mother does it all the time, it's a quick fix and if you want to make the ring bigger again 1-2-3 you pop the wax right out.

Go to a cheap jewelry store, like Claire's. They'll sell ring guards. Its a little piece of plastic that goes on the underneath. They work great!

Wrap a string around the underneath of the ring. This way it won't slip off and noone will know it's there.

If you have plastic tubing slice a little slit into one side and snap it on the back end. They sell them under the name of ring snuggies or ring guards. They also have this silicon based gel that you can bead on the inside of the ring and than remove it later by simply peeling it off.
