My co-worker was out with his son and they had to buy a toy for a toy drive, the child asked why do we have to do this? Doesn't Santa go to everyones house? So my question is how do you answer that one?

"Yes, Santa does but you have presents from mummy, daddy and aunts and uncles too - but some of these children don't have any family left to also buy them a present, so we make sure they get one or two extra ones - as well as the ones from Santa"

Something like that perhaps?

Have her tell him that maybe the little one could not write to Santa and since the child was unable to send Santa a wish list then humans step in and help Santa give those children that are unable to mail a letter to santa.

tell them that Santa wants you to give them something extra as he has so many toys to deliver and sometimes asks people to be extra nice and buy extra toys for other children too.

Toy Drives are wonderful ways for the human race to help Santa contribute. He is, after all, very busy all year, making Christmas a Happy time for children. We ,as parents, should do our part to help him. Some children who are needy and cannot communicate with Santa would be left out without the toy drives.

I have never lied to my kids about Santa or anything else. However, I acknowledge that not all people subscribe to this thinking. You could simply say that Santa is such a nice person and is so very busy as are his elves that he lets people help make sure there are extra toys for boys and girls who didn't get their letters and requests to Santa's shop on time. Or some variation of that.

I would tell my child that Santa is so busy that he needs help sometimes. We gather the toys for him and he picks them up on Christmas Eve night. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

I have always told my son that parents have to pay for the gifts that Santa brings. This way, he knows that we have to pay for his gifts and he cannot have an unlimited amount of toys and the poor do not have the money for toys so we have to help them to be able to enjoy their Christmas too. It has worked so far.

Good luck.

I always have told my children that they go to the children who have very little. If Santa gave everything that they wanted/needed there would not be enough to go around.

I think maybe it's time for truth telling, because this child would benefit more from learning charity and learing to appreciate his parents' hard work to give him what he gets than from learning that a mystical fat man in a red suit just hands things out.
