Lately, there has been so many news reports on how the british people do not like immigrants living in their country etc. What are ur views? Do u generally dislike the idea of living with people from other countries or is it that u only want the bad ones out? Or do u have any specific preferences on who u would prefer to live in ur country like australians , europeans etc?

I generally like immigrants and I'm happy for them to come here but, immigration should be controlled. I don't necessarily mean the numbers limited, but the government doesn't really have a clue how many are here or where they are or anything and I think that's bad. If they are able, they should also work and assimilate into society. The media has a lot to answer for in this country. They whip people's emotions up for their own agenda.

It's got nothing to do with not liking immigrants. Many have integrated very well in the past fifty years or so.
However, there is something fundamentally wrong when people who have just arrived in this country (often passing through other European countries to reach here) are automatically housed, given free health care and benefits yet there are pensioners who have contributed to the system all their working lives, many of whom either fought in or lived through World War 2, who cannot afford their heating bills or are being harassed and even imprisoned for non payment of council tax.. That's the real disgrace, and it is New Labour's legacy.

I, and I think most British people, do not have a problem with immigrants per se. What we dislike is:

1. people moving to our country and refusing to take on board any of our national customs an dtraditions. Immegrants should realise that Britain is NOT Pakistan or wherever.
2. people moving to our country and being given free housing, money, benefits, healthcare. We work hard and pay our taxes. We have enough teenage mum sponging off the system, we don't need anyone else!
3. people moving to our country and not learning the language.
4. Muslims who move to the UK, live off benefits and then claim they are fighting Jihad against our leaders and people.

Overall I think that British people are pretty tolerant - we are always getting a bad press when really we have done more to accomodate immigrants than most other European cultures. However, and this is a big point, I (an a lot of other Britons) really resent having to change our ways, our speech and our cultures to accomodate strangers. In short, it is the political correctness which imposed upon us, rather than the people themselves, that we dislike.

I am an expat Brit so maybe my opinions are skewed.
But people like Frank Bruno, Linford Christie and Jason Robinson make me feel proud to be British.
On the other hand, watching 'British' people cheer for Pakistan against England at cricket is a bit disquieting.
As an expat, we find each other with the accent, and form common bonds. I have had arguments about Liverpool or Man. U with an ethnic Chinese Brit, but we never argued about supporting England.
As for preferring Aussies, or the Europeans (I'm thinking French) - hell no. ;-)

I strongly believe that we should welcome everyone that wishes to come in to our country. However I also strongly believe, like myself, they have a responsibility to provide for themselves and their families and not rely on benefit payments. I also believe that people should abide by the host's laws and cultures and respect them at the same time as practising their own.

An article on today's news was about the amount of British citizens that now live in Spain. They go to English shops, restaurant, schools etc. I don't see why they bothered to move there if they don't want to integrate.

I do not have a problem with anyone coming to the country.

I do have a problem with people who come to this country expecting handouts. (Homes, food, healthcare etc)

They should work like I do in order to receive these things.

That said I also have a problem with British people who expect handouts. I do not enjoy working to support other peoples children who can not be bothered to work.

I also have a problem with people who come to the country and do not embrace our language and culture.

I also have a problem with British politicians who are trying to convince us that we should move away from our beliefs and cultures in case others find them offensive.

I don't care who lives here providing they contribute to the country and embrace our way of life.

i do not 'dislike' any non british, what i dislike is the way they to not integrate with anyone and alienate themselves from society. many have bought over crime with them, granted it is not the majority, but it is the minority that spread the bad reputation because it is highligted in the news more.
i know alot of immigrants genuinely want to be accepted into the british society, but until they bring down the walls they build around themselves, they are going to be targets for racial tension and segregation from everything that goes on around them.

i have no problems with foreigners as it would give people the oppportunity to understand different culures and lifestyles, ethics, religious beliefs and way of life.
