The British sense of humour is much more dry and cynical then the American. This means we find American humour awkward and clumsy. However, that's as much our problem as theirs. Also, a lot of good comedies (The Simpsons as one example) has come from America.

I don't think that Americans lack a sense of humor. It's just different, really. Lots of great comedies have come out of America. I think that the main reason so many people say Americans don't have any sense of humor is that American humor tends to be kind of more straightforward and uncomplicated and slapsticky. You won't generally find much cynicism or dryness.
I once remember a British friend saying that sarcasm/irony seems to be lost on Americans. I'm not sure that's true about all Americans, but that appears to be the overall point of view among non-Americans. Maybe Friends and The Simpsons are the only American comedies they've ever seen and they simply have a bad perception of American humor. I couldn't say. It seems to me that a lot of people who say that Americans have no sense of humor are just anti-American in general.

I think that is a misconception, Americans are very humourous.Others should learn to identify their kind of humour. Even though the world has a decent population of English speakers , few get American jokes immediately, probably because of peculiar expressions that are typically used by Americans, are used in these jokes which may not be easily understood by people who are not American nationals.(This is a totally unbiased opinion coming from a foreign national)

That is interesting! I think we are very funny. I don't know many comedians from other countries other then that Russian guy Yakov Smirnoff from the 80's. I think Americans are very funny. Well there are some uptight people here too. I think it is probably the same thing everywhere. I would think the British are more uptight then the Americans. But I don't know any Brits so I can't really say.

exciting argument factors there - extremely approximately slapstick. i've got have been given consistently considered American humour as greater suitable slapstick and reliant on ask your self fee than British humour which seems to be consistent with innuendo, situational comedy and puns. American humour is taking off to be in attractiveness over dazzling right here yet to an marvelous form of human beings it remains considered crass and obscene and genuinely too predictable and straightforward to be exciting (by using utilising ask your self fee, swearing etc) on the same time as while in comparison with classic British comedy like Dads protection rigidity, Fawlty Towers and others. i don't have a concern with human beings liking distinctive genres of humour (it may well be boring if all human beings replace into the same inspite of each thing!) regrettably there is arrogance and superiority on the two factors it rather is incredibly vitriolic at circumstances - an marvelous disgrace we can't have reasoned debates to any volume further. i might propose actually that British humour isn't previous, actual it form of feels to be taking off to be further and bigger widespread presently (eg ideal equipment is shown in over 40 international places international) and American networks are figuring out to purchase rights from the BBC, ITV and C4 for shows like the placement of labor, The Inbetweeners and ideal equipment itself - the remakes of that have all been disastrous given the unique British differences have already been broadcast contained interior the U. S. and been very widespread (an marvelous form of human beings DO hit upon British comedy humorous). The accessory element is significant i think of of, American variety comedy does now not artwork with British accents and vice versa. it somewhat is in basic terms what appeals to distinctive human beings. inspite of each thing, we are British and human beings and disagreements are the rationalization we on the instant at the instant are not all British nonetheless! Viva le massive distinction :D

If they read the works of the reclusive celebrated American writer and poet, Linda J Cirillo, I bet you that they would develop a more organised humour, similar to Miss Virginia Slims.

Some of us do. I for one, appreciate British and Canadian comedy even more so than American, simply because it pushes the envelope a little further. I've thought about this for a long time and I suppose we really are just that different. I'm not sure what it is.

first, i have to say that i'm American and i like both British and American sitcoms.
and i can't really say what Americans consider humorous, since i'm only one person. it's like her in America, a lot of people say that British sit-coms and tv shows are so boring. (though a lot of our shows are spin offs from yours, so they're really rather similar)
so, really all i can say is i don't know.

Sure they do. On March 12th 2005 a 14 year old Iraqi girl, Abeer Kassem Hamza Al-Janabi was gang -raped, and along with her Mother, Father and 6 year old sister where shot and killed by U.S. paratroopers of the "famed" 101st Airborne Division. "Specialist" James Barker age 23 pleaded guilty. When asked why he committed the two worst crimes imaginable (rape and murder) he said he was just having a bit of fun. Humour American style.
