In my opinion, a nerd is a mis-fit who lacks the social skills needed to adequately function in the broader society. Usually very intelligent, nerd tend to be more at home in the life of the mind than in real life.
I would consider myself to be a geek. Someone once told me they thought the difference between a geek and a nerd was simply: "a geek is a cool nerd." Maybe so.

Nerd, as a stereotypical or archetypal designation, refers to somebody who passionately pursues intellectual or esoteric interests - such as books and video games rather than having a social life, participating in any physical activity, or having friends. The Merriam-Webster definition is an "unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits"

People usually associated nerds people with big glasses, and braces and there hair is gelled so tightly against their head, like the little boy in The Rascalls.
But in my opion,everyone has a little bit of nerdiness in them somewhere.

A nerd knows and cares about some branch of esoterica that the general population doesn't -- it may be computery things, or it may be arcane trivia about comic art and artists, or comic book values. For that matter, it can be math, science or English, too.
