These cars are nightmares, I'll never buy one again. You need a home equity loan to fix them.

I can fully understand why you would complain on the quality of Mercedes because it has been global. The quality of the cars have plummetted since it was bought by Audi. However I own 3 BMW's and besides the maintenence expenses of oil, tires, and regular wear and tear, I have had no problems with either.
I have had each for nearly 6 years and i can only come up with one incidence where i had a problem with a window moter, but thats it.

Well I've owned two Hondas (Accord and Civic) and my BMW 735il. The Hondas were cheaper to maintain than the BMW. However, I have a BMW that was originally $65,000+ back in 1990. It has every gizmo known to man for a car back in that time. When a car is 20 years old, it's gonna have some problems.

Now, as far as which car I like the best, it's the BMW hands down. What other car can I cruise at 90 mph without straining my engine at all and feel safe at the same time. The Accord was near that but the 4cyl engine was revving high. The civic felt like it was ready for takeoff at 90 mph because it was so light. And, if I hit anything in either Honda, the party was over. The handling of both Hondas can't hold the road nearly as well as the BMW.

My final judgment is that you get what you pay for. If you want a huge car that you feel safe in, performs well, and will stand the test of time as long as it's properly maintained, go with a BMW or Benz. If you want a car that you only have to throw a part at once every 2-3 years and you don't drive fast, go with a Honda. If you just want a cheap car that you can throw parts at daily, get a FORD. LOL

never owned a Benz but I'm on my second BMW, had a 325 and have an X5 now- best cars I've ever owned. Not to mention, they come with 4 yr service plans, you don't even have to change the oil or the windshield wiper blades, they do it all for you- free of charge, they have a loner vehicle waiting for you (a BMW of course) and you are always greeted by your first name at the dealership. When the service peroid is up, just trade it in for a new one!!!! Lets face it, these cars are not for everyone,$$$, but that is why everyone wants one. I recently purchased a Dodge Durrango as well, wow, big mistake, dealer treated me like crap, and had TONS of problems but thats another story

No, if anything they're under-rated. My M5 will keep up with a Corvette Z06, averages 18mpg, and has reliability as good as - or better than - Japanese cars, with all the electronic techno-gizmos imaginable.

Handling performance is like a race car, and the more modern version (E60 M5) went head-to-head with a Ferrari F430 and came out on top (Autocar magazine).

What more you could you ask for?

Benz, on the other hand, well ... I've heard that the best thing about them is the coffee in the service department waiting area... ;-)

I agree with your statement regarding fixing costs of these brands. I also would state that they have a tendency braking down more than their Japanese equivalents.
I have owned 5 late model BMW`s to date (2001 to 2005 models). They were all nightmares regarding reliability. BMW`s "on-call" personnel and I were on first name terms. BMW can keep their "Motorplan" with "on-call" assistance and start producing a reliable vehicle. Nothing more embarrassing to have your very expanse vehicle being towed away. My 7 series of 2003 vintage would spend 2 to 3 months on end in the workshops.... I made the switch back to Japanese 7 months ago. I couldn't stand the sight of tow-in trucks anymore. I hope others have a better experience of the brand than I had.

Whatever floats you boat and keeps you happy. BMW is not meant to be a family car. BMW is high-performance sports. Mercedes is meant to be the ultra-luxury car. Some of the cars I think are overrated like the 3-series BMW, and the C-Class Mercedes. Both have better cheaper counter parts.

BMW 4 year 50,000 warr and maintenance. Don't see how you would need to pay for anything while you owned the car. Now Benz is a different story.

BMW's no, I still find them to be of high quality. I've had mine for over two years now and have not had any major problems with it, other than usual wear and tear. They are still sticking to their high standards.

As for Mercedes, yes, ever since they were bought out. I would never buy one of their cars now. The Mercedes that we do have at home was bought before they were bought out, so the quality of the actual car is still good.

Your'e right. They are not for everyone.

But safety is the major issue. These cars are built like a tank but nimble like a sports car. If you value your life, you will buy one.

Those who have fat wallets, get these cars becz. repair charges are pittens for them. I also see them filling up Super Unleaded when the gas price is so high and here I am at the pump - crying for the saving of 1 cent for a regular gas. Ce'st le vie.

But think about it, dude....these are powerful driving machines (Ultimate) they got the looks and the durability as well. Allow me to translate....Honda's, Volkswagen's, KIA's,Nissan's,Ford's,etc. are pretty affordable cars...other than the fact that they break down on you a lot more than the European Cars, they are not as safe (in case it gets stolen or accident preventions) and they are definetly not as reliable as the European Cars.
Take it as an Investment to a great, no-hassle future with a beautiful and powerful machine by your side to provide all your craving needs....lol..*wink*
