I'm definitely not addicted to WoW. I can stop anytime I want to. I just choose to play 18 hours a day. And I do plenty of other things. Why just last week I brushed my teeth. I'm planning to take a shower next week, maybe. So I have a rich full life and still find time to play WoW. Just logging off and doing other things is easy. I even took time out to feed the cat. I think I fed the cat at least, sometimes last week? Umm ... here kitty kitty?
ok, seriously now, MMO's can be very addictive, especially for some types. But with all things a balance is necessary for healthy living. If you can laugh at the above, then you're probably there and in need of some help. I urge you to seek help before your life is ruined. For me, I need physical activity, work life balance, time with family, and some time to myself on the computer. I find a few hours three or four times a week is enough Wow time. As a measure, I try to exercise about the same amount of time I spend in Wow. Wow time is my reward for exercise time.

It sounds like you are addicted. Fortunately playing computer games is not a physical addiction, just a psychological one. So you only have that aspect to deal with, unlike being addicted to something like cigarettes or alcohol. Unfortunately psychological addictions are often the hardest to break.
You have taken the first step, you have acknowledge the fact that you have a problem. It might comfort you to know you aren't alone. Many young people are becoming addicted to computer games. You want to stop so that will help you tremendously.
Some people feel it's better to deal with an addiction by reducing the amount of time involved in the activity. Gradually cut down the hours. I think this system takes a lot of self control myself but you know whether you can do it or not. Others feel going "cold turkey" is better. Cut it out altogether. Despite the fact that the addition is purely psychological you are likely to suffer from physiological side effects of withdrawal from the activity. Particularly those connected to feelings of stress and depression. This is normal, you will survive.
Don't be afraid to seek help and support from those around you, even if it means professional counselling. Computer game addiction is a relatively new phenomona but that doesn't make it any less real or any less serious than any other kind of addiction. People not suffering from it can say "oh just stop" but that is easier said than done. You have taken an important step by acknowledging the problem, now get your family and friends to help you resolve it. You know what's best for you, a total ban or gradual weaning off the process. Ensure you replace the activity with other activities but be careful you don't just replace one addiction with another.
Good luck

Just make up your mind to let it go. Things have a way of taking over your life and what a waste of time. I can tell you as a Mother that "Dungeons and Dragons" took over my wonderful son and changed who he was. I told him that the happiest day of my life would be when I could see him burn that game in the middle of the back yard.I didn't restrict his playing but today he has 2 sons and he restricts their time and sometimes takes the games away. He knows how it took control of his mind. He could not think of anything else. Please don't let that happen to you. You are reaching out for help and that is a good sign. Good Luck and
Have a Merry Christmas and a Great New Year !!!

I got addicted to MOH, and one day I decided to uninstall the game. My life has been much better since. I've found that outdoor sports are a lot healthier and positive way for entertainment.
