Some guy wrote a book.. and put the first 6 chapters on the net.
It became a word of mouth hit, and he landed a major million dollar deal for publishing the full book. Creative shoestring marketing. Get yourself noticed. It can be hard to get the publishers to take notice by approach (but keep trying always), yet always good to pull strings yourself if you can. GL and respect.

Becoming established as a writer takes time. Self-belief and determination to see it through to the end is essential. It is important to write rather than think about writing; persevere and not give up in the face of rejection. A novel must be finished before it can be considered for publication. It is an achievement in itself to finished a novel. Most would-be writers fall by the wayside. There is a lot of hard work ahead.

Solicit critiques from disinterested persons--no relatives or close friends. They often will not be honest enough about your manuscript.
Consult the Writer's Market or Novel and Short Story Writer's Market books at your library. They are also available at bookstores.
Within are lists of literary agents and publishers that will state their preferences in genre, type of manuscript, and methods of submissions. A literary agent is the best approach for an unpublished author. Always check their websites for additional guidelines.
Another must-have reference grammar tool is “Elements of Style” by Strunk and Williams.
Format your manuscript in accordance with acceptable guidelines--always double-spaced with pertinent contact information on the cover page. Find the booklet, “Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript” by Cynthia Laufenberg. It is an invaluable tool for the writer.
Meanwhile, edit your story as it moves on. When your writing slows, concentrate on catching errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Any manuscript submitted prematurely without corrections will surely be scrapped immediately upon receipt.

Look into your education. You need to have more than just the basics of English...You need to learn about copyrights, query letters, publishing, taxes. I have been taking a writer's course at home and I never knew how much you needed to know just to start. I am amazed how much my writing could change and how much better it is becoming after only a few months of study. Make sure you have the mechanic's first...Good luck!!

If you mean starting to write, the best form is to start with a diary or blog, identify you ecuring themes and then start writing about that. If you mean established as in published then you would be better off writing treatments and synopsis of your idea and looking for commissions in that form

You just have to keep writing, and send your work of to a lot of publishers. Do not aim too high to begin with, but just keep working at it. It will be quite a long process unfortunately.
