So yeah, If Congress passed a bill requiring the use of all fluorescents, wouldn't we cut down greatly on energy costs? Not to mention the ramifications to the environment. Though I do wonder if there's a way to recycle that many light bulbs that would get tossed? If Congress can pass laws REQUIRING us to wear safety belts for our protection, couldn't they pass a law saving the Earth from us?

They probably couldn't pas a law requiring the use of flourescent bulbs because it's not a safety issue. However, they could tax the heck out of incandescent ones making it cost prohibitive to buy them.

They could pass a law making us not use lights or television or computers after dark, too.

But that would be just as wrong.

Please read the Constitution, and please understand that legally, morally, the Congress and the federal government do not have the authority to pass any such laws.

It is this fundamental fact of limitations on the government that so many of you forget in your crusades. And by forgetting it, you unleash the forces of enlarging government, which is always at the expense of liberty and freedom.
