My doctor says is it reaches 20 I could need a blood transfusion when I deliver. I am 29 weeks pregnant.

Start CHELATED iron supplements. (Easier for your body to absorb and less chance of constipation. I took Blackstrap molassas iron caplets.)

Consider taking Chlorophyll as well.

Go to the healthfood store and ask for Floradix

mY iron levels were in the 7s when I was pregnant. I was threatened with a transfusion also, but I did not end up needing one. I took 3 iron pills a day (ferrous sulphate). The doctor said that would help, but it really didn't. You can also eat iron rich foods. Try cereals like chex or total. Lots of green leafy veggies and some red meat.

I was borderline anemic with my first pregnancy and my Doctor just put me on extra iron pills, to take with my prenatal vitamins...Hope everything works out for you..
