How can knowing more about other people be translated into increased productivity and job satisfaction?

You learn how to communicate with them. Knowing a language is only the begining, you have to know how to make them feel appreciated and honored. Some cultures have different customs, rituals, even different greetings, etc. You have to know about these in order to fit in with their society.

You learn how to get along with them and make them feel appreciated. And if they need to stop at a certain time for a prayer see if you can't arrange for that to happen. If one feels appreciated they feel motivated.
