No I have never made a career damaging blunder at a christmas party, or any party for that matter. I tend to be outspoken when I am sober, and I can't imagine what it would be like with a few drinks in me. Therefore, if you are going to attend the "festivities", I would remain sober if I were you. At least the next morning you will be completely aware of what you said and to whom you said it. Those kind of parties are best if you attend them for just short periods of time. Its easy to explain why you can't stay long. Its a busy time of the year, other parties to attend, shopping, baking, wrapping, any number of reasons to not stay to long so you keep yourself out of trouble, but still put in an appearance.

A Christmas party should be treated as business meeting only you are dressed differently. I would suggest NOT drinking. Use the time to network with others in your company but do not let your guard down. Most management look at the Christmas party as the time they can see who you REALLY are!

Best Wishes!
