"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle. "

Sun Tzu, the Art of War, 500 BC.

BRILLIANT POST!

"If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat."

There are reports that Bush did not even know that the Sunnis and Shiia existed before we waltzed into Iraq.

Indeed, there have been recent audio tapes released of the head of the FBI's anti-terrorist unit saying he could not explain the difference between Suunni and Shiia religious sects.

Just a BRILLIANT post.

Did you have a better plan? People just don't get it. The United States has always tried to defend Democracy and help oppressed nations. The Japanese are the ones who attacked Pearl Harbor, not the Germans. Yet we fought and defeated them in WWII. That is how we assist the world. We don't sit back while evil runs it's path. No, Iraq may have not been directly responsible for the attack on the World Trade Center, but they were without question one of the forces of evil in this world. We did, and hopefully will continue to act as defenders of freedom until someone comes up with a better idea!

lets see we went to war against Iraq , which we won very easily. matter of fact it was thought it would be a long drawn out conflict. (Iraq had the worlds 4 or5 largest army at time of war) no one saw such a fast end to the war. no one expected that terrorist from around the world flood into Iraq to fight us. has there ever been a war that after the nation has been defeated that other nations have brought in other enemy combatants to continue to fight? no not ever. and the other nations France Russia that stood against the war were making millions dollars out of Iraq. so they did not hurt their own pockets.

I like that. It's sooo true. "If you know your enemy and you know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles." Another wise saying, "Head the warning giving before you." The first sentence really touches home and refer to those of us here in the state of Texas. Of course Bush's policy was predictable. Bush was once our Governor of Texas before he was elected President. He didnt do much for us as Governor, well, let me reitirate, he did too much for us, as in messing up, so we knew giving him a higher authority wouldnt be any better. He was f***ing up then, as governor, and he's f***ing up now. When he left Texas, all he did was leave us his peon. He's not as bad as Bush, but damn we need a break.

It was predicted by Bush's father in his book 'A World Transformed'(1998), in which he said that removing Saddam from power would result in a quagmire with America occupying hostile territory, destabilization of the Middle East, and the loss of America's international reputation and authority.

Colin Powell told current president Bush, "if you break it, you own it". Well, Bush broke it and we own the mess.

Very good post.
Anybody that followed the discussions at the UN prior to the invasion of Irak (A.K.A Bush's Blunder) will undoubtedly have to say that Bush's failure in Irak and the consequences thereofe was 100% predictable

WE WON THE WAR against Iraq very quickly.
We are having difficulty with occupation. Our enemy is a group of cowards who hide behind women and children and use human bombs to blow things up. That is hard to control. Our military is doing the best it can under such circumstances!

was it predictable?

I clearly recall many european leaders warning mister Bush on national TV that the after-war would be a mess.
Of course, nobody inside the US could say anything like that or they would have been publicly hanged on the spot. (treator!!)

was it opposed?

yes, by about the rest of the world.
Even in those countries part of the colation of the bribed, the population were furious.

That saying is 100% true. People who say "DUH" are dumb, and understand nothing about the Art of War. Bush really is going in the wrong direction. And yes, I predicted and hoped that Bush's strategy would be a failure. Long live the Iraqi people.

Bush implemented the wrong strategy, and disaster is all he got.

Yes. He had to lie to get there, and lie to cover the fact it was not going well. His "mission accomplished" was a joke, and the whole world knows it, and now it has back fired in his face! I hope he listens to the Iraq Commissions recommendations.
