help, 28 year old woman
I'm training for a challenging physical test which measures strength and endurance. I have been training for a couple of months but have not seen much improvement as far as strength goes. I used to be very skinny and now have tried to eat more to gain some muscle weight, but I"m afraid that I may be doing something wrong (not eating right, or not training right). the test is about 6 months away. Does anyone have any good ideas or input? Any good websites for excercise routines? I'll take all the help I can get.

Strength training is going to have to be done with free weights and going to failure over a series of say 3 or 4 sets. Often times what I find is that clients give in to a certain number they have to go to. Remember working out is to challenge our body...not to get to a specific number. After you learn your failure point then you can start assigning rep counts to it.

As for endurance training- it is about teaching your body to carry on an activity without failing. Practice the events like you would for the test. However trim back to about 75% of the actual test for training purposes.

Also, if this is important to you- a trainer would be a good idea. Make sure you talk to a couple and get a feel for who would be ideal for you. Some trainers might even have experiance in the particular type test. I think you will find the investment well worth it.

You need to get a personal trainer. They are not that expensive.
