I am 18 weeks pregnant and I started feeling "fluttering/quickening" about 2.5 weeks ago or so but all of a sudden (at least it seemed sudden) I got worried because yesterday (and maybe even the day before) i didnt feel it quite as much. Not saying i feel it very often thruout the day, but when im still i notice it obviously, just wondering if the baby is just chilling or what. I had the fetal heartbeat checked 11.27.06 and everything was normal. I dont have any peculiar discharges, etc. Had a sharp pain in my stomach last night but it subsided quickly - i'm thinking gas. But wanted to know if I should be looking for anything else.

i just want to thank all of you for your advice and answers. I think being a first time mother its all been a little nerve wracking. I will probably call my doctor tomorrow to make sure. I dont have a uti as I dont have any of the symptoms, but just want to make sure everything is going as planned. Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

Did you doctor provide you a card that has you do a daily "kick count"?
There should be something within all of your paperwork that shows you how often you should be feeling kick. 18 weeks is still fairly early. I would give it a couple more weeks and the little bugger will be kickin like crazy and keeping you up all hours of the night. Be sure to ask your Doctore or Midwife next time you visit. They should be able to tell you exactly what they think it normal and what is not.

Everything that your experiencing is quite normal. I am 20 weeks pregnant and there are days that I won't feel the baby move at all. I get nervous as well and I will try and lightly shake my stomach or tap the sides to see if I can feel something then and still nothing but later on I'll get a big relief when I feel the movement and all my worries subside for that moment at least. With you being 18 weeks movements have only started . They usually start to feel the bubble like movements between 17 and 20 weeks . You have to think your baby could be moving a lot and you wouldn't know it because he/she is so tiny usually only 6-8 inches and not even a pound yet . I am positive that your just fine. Tell your Dr. when you go in for your scheduled appointment and I am sure that he/she will tell you the same thing that your just starting to feel movement now so you may not feel them that often. I have experienced this quite a bit. This will be my fifth child. Good luck to you and congratulations.

well since you had the sharp pain if it was just the once then it just might have been gas, but if you have it more often then it could be a uti (urinary tract Infection). if you let it go it could be very serious. If i was you i would talk to my doctor about it and tell then what happened. some of the signs are: You may feel a burning when you urinate. You may need to urinate more often, sometimes 30 to 60 minutes later. Or, you may feel like you need to go again right after you've just urinated. You may notice blood in your urine or a strong odor.

The sharp pain could have been the baby moving and it kicked an organ. I wouldn't worry about not feeling the baby as much. Either you have gotten used to the feelings and don't feel it when your walking or the baby is finally sleeping more and growing.

Congrats

there's a theory that when you are up and walking around, it rocks the baby to sleep and they move less. i noticed my baby moving a LOT more at night when i layed down to sleep or when i was just sitting still on the couch. your baby is fine and as he grows you will notice him moving a lot more up until your last month or so. at that point, they get so big that they run out of room to move around and they then get into the "head down" position to get ready for delivery. it doesn't sound like anything is wrong, you're probably just a nervous first time mother. no big deal, we all go through it.

Enjoy all seems to be okay they need to sleep to grow and this one is about to double in size. You do not have long before you wont be able to help but feel that little one every time he/she moves. Best of luck and enjoy. Always check with your doctor if things seem way out of whack or you just need reassurance.

I am going to be the only one who will tell you differently. I am on another message board. 2 of our women went through this. They ended up losing their babies.
If you feel something is wrong, you call the doctor up immediately. Then, if the baby is okay, you can just chalk it up to first time pregnancy.
Always go with your gut.
Good luck.
