The marketing guys spend a lot of time trying out new names with the public. If the public perceive the name as cool and that results in just a 1% increase in sales, then this can be worth millions to the manufacturer.

Ther is absolutely no rhyme or reason for the model numbers given to a cell phone. It's just a way to distinguish one model from another. It's like the model of a car. As far as certain brands go, such as Nokia, you might be able to find a correllation between model numbering, but it will only be specific to a certain brand.

You mean like "Get the new VX 6600 from Verizon." If thats what you mean then it is all marketing. They market up the new models so if you are one of the people who have an older model phone and someone asks you what kind of phone you have and you say one that is slightly old. The other person will be like didn't they already come out the the VX 7000?? Its all a big push to get you to buy the new model.

yes!! there is a logic but thats for the manufacturer to figure out...
e.g
Nokia 1100 and 1108 have same software form factor and design , same featues almost....
1110, 1110i 1112 are enhanced and smaller version of 1100 series.... uses the same software, form factor and features just a bit of sofware addition on each phone but smaller then 1100 series.... so model numbers not necessarily the ascending order model numbers but are in accordance with certain technical and design aspects of the phone.
