Yes. The menstrual flow is a mixture of blood, secretions and tissue and part of it may look like mucus.

If you ever pass anything that looks really unusual, save it in a plastic bag or a jar and show it to your doctor. An example would be a huge clot or material that could indicate pus or a yeast infection.

Absolutely. It's just like regular discharge; you get it while you are on your period as well. It's nothing to worry about, it's completely normal.
