Sexuality is known to greatly influence your life in terms of homo and bisexuality in that this is not an issue that heterosexuals will have to face in their lives.

Some who are faced with this will withdraw from the general bulk of society and form a click of those facing the same issues as a form of support.

Do you think this is the right thing to do? Do you feel you have done so? To what extent do you feel that your sexuality has influenced your present self? (i.e., being introduced as Gay "Your name here" or "Your name here - *whisper* the lesbian *whisper*)

Kacky - Quite tacky to comment on typos as opposed to using your intellect to interpret the meaning of a question and to address this. Cop on!

This is a serious question guys... kind of being misinterpreted? Due to my poor phrasing?

To paraphrase - If you are homosexual or bisexual - to what extent do you feel that your sexuality has affected other aspects of your life.

Dear Johnny,
I feel that sexuality is not a definition of ones self, but it can be made into it. It should not be... yet a lot of gays and lesbians, I find are involved with a close circle of gay friends which is definately a comfort/support thing where the person does feel like an outsider yet within this group, feels safe and wanted.
Coming out as gay has so many consequences... It is true to say heterosexuals will not ever have to go through what a gay person does and therefore does not know the emotions involved in the process of acceptance. I believe gay can become a lifestyle if you want and let it... Some people let it strictly define themselves and embrace it when a person is so much more than who they sleep with and love.
As a lesbian I feel like people are talking about me although I would think (and hope) I am not as such an obvious lesbian.... aka what a heterosexual might stereotype a lesbian as... a butch, shaved head woman with male interests. I do feel there are whispers and therefore it has effected my life and self at present.
I have a gay male friend who is, like you said, constantly introduced as "gay" *his name*, which to me is not ok.
I think I click with gay people better, I feel like I have somewhat "clicked" as you say with gay people and do feel more comfortable around them although I have my straight friends.
Since accepting being gay though has made me more comfotable in myself, I would suggest to anyone coming out to think hard and long before doing so as once the cat is out of the bag.... On the other hand it allows you to be yourself and gain some confidence in yourself.
Im slightly going off the point with my rant, so I will end with I do not think sexuality should be a definition of ones self although it seems to play a huge part in defining a person.

The Holy Joes are quite annoying with their views on homosexuality. People are born this way, they don't decide to be gay just for the hell of it and it can be hell - neither can you be "cured" you are what you are. Being gay in the 60's&70's was a lot harder than today, although you could get away with being "single" in the work environment, without too many questions, up until the age of about 40 after that the whispers start. You can't be wholly relaxed in the workplace as colleagues can be very nosy and want to know the 'ins' and 'outs' of your personal life. If you feel revealing your sexuality is going to affect your career you then have to make up a "personal life" or appear to be stand offish by not revealing it and telling them you like to keep your private life just that. Now it's not so difficult for people to come out, there are laws that protect you in the workplace regarding harrassment. With friends you can tell them if you feel that it isn't going to phase them and if it does, well then, they weren't the type of friend you needed were they?

If nothing else, it's given me a more immediate sense of social justice. It might sound terrible, but it was more of a hazy notion until it affected me. Once there, the issues that affect everyone else also took on greater importance.

You seem to be asking if I live in a queer world. And the answer is "no"; many but not all of my close friends are queer, but that's largely due to the fact that all my straight friends transferred to a different school. :P I probably would given the opportunity though. "The right thing to do"...guess that depends on what you mean. I think it makes perfect sense to spend as little time in the straight world as we have to: work, family, etc. But I think that actively working towards improving the world can be done in what I would consider queer space; so I don't see what would be wrong about it.

I can't comment for homosexuals or bisexuals, but I know as a heterosexual with bi- and homosexual friends that I can get a lot of flak from accompanying them to "gay and lesbian" events. (Like I'm somehow responsible for all the persecution they have suffered...)

It's easy I suppose to withdraw from the criticism, but all cliques have the same pros and cons. While providing positive support for their lifestyle and sexuality, it also reinforces any negative prejudices they have against "the outside world". It has the potential for creating an "artificial society" and does nothing for promoting understanding within the greater community.

(Of course, I have my own examples from a different area. As a single father to a young boy, I'm forever fighting "cliquey" mothers groups for everything from playgroups to education. Sure, they know single fathers exist - they just tend to be suprised I'm at THEIR parents group..)

Cosmic Coyote reported it nicely, and apparently, with out aspect out of Self (even with the reality that per chance you meant decrease case self?)...that's exactly my view besides. Definitions and labels, names and designations in problem-free words reduce. If the association between the note "definition" and its kinfolk "end," "finite," and "constrained" is seen, it ought to nicely be considered that one is presented to a halt by the first, diminished or micro-sized by the 2d, and held hostage or prisoner by the third. The self is, certainly, an echo in problem-free words of source, and as such fades from its non everlasting expression, a lot because the echo disappears or will change into unmanifest. to attain the infinite is to change into "undefined" because the constrained self, and to merge with the floor of being, from which "self" has arisen, lower back into God/source/All that's/Divine eternal as an open, keen, wide unsleeping vehicle for Its acceptable expresssion, good the following and on the instantaneous. 2d concepts: We ought to lose "definitions" and easily "be" that which we alread are, dropping the ego-personality's concepts video games that delimit and forestall complete co-operation with source. i'm Sirius

I am a christian person and I find homo/bi sexuality's to be wrong very wrong. I do not condone it all, but in other terms i do agree that it was not by choice. There are studies that say most gay/lesbian's are born that way. If that is the truth which i do agree then I am sorry, but for people who humiliate them i think it is wrong.
