yes... just once before it blows up

A diesel ignites its fuel by compressing air to make it hot enough to ignite sone fuel when it is sprayed into the cylinder. This is done in a controlled fashion by a fuel injector.

The diesel fuel burns relatively slowly pushing on the piston and driving the crank shaft.

Gasoline is much more volital so when it enters the combustion chamber it burns so rapidly (detonates) the pressures in the cylinder rise so rapidly the piston doesn't have time to move and absorbe the energy.

The result, cracked heads, blown gaskets, bent push rods, cracked piston heads. You could get some or all of these effects if the concentration of gasoline entering the cylinder is high enough....

it fairly is swings and roundabouts, fairly, yet a diesel is plenty much less polluting than a gas vehicle, for the diesel burns one hundred% of its gas, while as gas vehicle burns type of in undemanding terms ninety two % of the gas, with plenty noxious gasses from the exhaust. type regards Dr Antony
