Xbox360 doesn't read disc?

When i put an xbox360 game into my xbox360 an error message appears saying "to play this game put it into an xbox360 console", this happens with all my games but i know the games work fine as i played them at my friends house. anyone know anything about this?

Yes it could be a defective system I would take it back for another one. The only other thing I can suggest is getting is a CD lends cleaner but I really do not think that is the problem.
