If you're serious about learning how the music part works (ie. chord progressions, how to create an intro, a verse, a chorus, a bridge, an outro), get yourself a book and learn! I have several but the best one I have, in my opinion, is "How To Write Songs On Guitar" by Rikky Rooksby. You can check it out on Amazon.com and see if it's what your band needs. This book will help you to learn how chord progressions work and it'll take the mystery out of the music making process. You can move beyond the basic I IV V progressions and into some interesting musical territory. If you're willing to invest the time to learn, you'll make alot of progress with your music.

Wait, write songs or lyrics? Composing or what?
If you want to compose any songs, just download any composing software. Fl Studio, or Magix. There are many.
But you must know at least a few about songs, notes, crescent, chord...etc.
Writing lyrics is easier!~Just write down what;s on your mind, surely it will be good.

Songs are nothing more than poems with a musical score. Words first, melody second.
