start farming it out.
every community has these small press newspapers. take your portfolio down to their office and talk to the editor. just one small panel in one of these papers can make you. and be advised, your main goal here is to be published and hopefully published regularly. it's not about money.
if you can get in one or two (or more) of these papers many doors will open for you. good luck.

try to create a short story and take it to a publisher and have them to review it. if they feel like it. you are there
