from a past question on America, most responses stressed on other nations being jealous because of all America had. which points me back to ignorance... I'm South African and i wouldnt move for ****. we're democratic as well, freedom of speech prevails and i am lucky to live in an age where i'm young black, female and have so much more than my parents had in the past. i have a great job, fiance... live in a home with clean running water, sanitation etc. i can party 'til 6 in the morning, enter any place without being thrown out. i can vote, i went to great, expensive private schools. i can choose to be any religion i want to be. i'm deeply rooted into my culture though. and i know where i'm from and who my fore fathers are/were. i'm not a prisoner in my own country and being 21 ans with such access to so many things... i dont see any reason why i should be intimidated or scared of America... f**k i'm living a perfectly normal life. So what makes America think other countries dont have

I agree completely. I'm American, and can tell you that there are also people in parts of our own country who don't have all the things these same people claim everyone has. It's a lie to make themselves feel better, really. Also, a lot of it has to do with media coverage---the only images of any part of Africa most of these same people you were talking about ever see is poverty (most likely in nations nowhere near South Africa!)

In school as well, a lot of us were taught that America is the greatest nation on earth during civics and government classes. It's done somewhat subtly, but it's still taught. I wonder if it's a way to keep us from finding out what other nations may have?

Good for you. You have exactly what every American believes everyone in the world deserves to have.

I am an American, and I don't know a single person in either private life or in public office that thinks that anyone in a peaceful, democratic country ought to be "scared" of us.

You must be aware that there are plenty of countries still being run by power-craving dictators, religious zealots, or certifiable wack jobs. There is a difference in how we approach nations we think of as hazardous to democracy or those which seek to possess nuclear weapons or nerve gas and use those weapons to threaten us or our friends.

I would hope South Africa would support the idea of fostering free and democratic governments around the world.

because of our media and western culture, we perceive American culture civilized and every other country as primitive. ( in general) . ignorance is bless. south Africa sounds nice, but I'm sure they have so problems too. America isn't all bad. but we do have the potential to be.

happy for you and everyone else who is content. as far as I am personally concerned if another is happy this is all that matters. if they are not happy then they need to change things until they achieve happiness -- no matter where they are

do you have room for 40 million more? please, if it is such a great place, i think you should spread the word to 40 million black people here. i wish the south had been independent. damn their slavery. would you be willing, as well as the rest of africa, to take them back off of our hands?
