I play this girl who cheats on her boyfriend and makes a drunkan confession tape. But the boyfriend plays the tape in front of everyone! So what body language should I use? How should I look? And what should I say... it's part improvised!

Sadly, you can't cheat the camera. So don't worry about what body language to use and how to look. If you do that, it'll look planned when watched back. You've got to concentrate on getting into the frame of mind of being in that situation yourself and then just do what what you would do. If you get it right, words will just fly out of your mouth and it'll all be real and you absolutely can't do more than that. Then you're just down to whether the casting director thinks you look right for the part which is out of your control.

A technique used by some of the best acting teachers of past and present would be "Emotional Memory" or "Emotional Recall."

1. Think of a time when you were embarrassed. How did you respond to it? What emotions were evoked? Was there a specific object that when you see it sets you off into that emotional state?
2. When that scene comes around, substitute that "trigger object" in for the tape. That should help you substitute those genuine feelings of embarrassment in for the ones called for in the scene.

BEST WISHES!!!

You have got to try and make this as authentic as possible. Its quite difficult to act surprised when you know whats coming. Try something like picking your nails as if you are dis- interested, you know, when you are bored with something. Then look up, still disinterested, then hold that for just a nano second; then make sure that your eyes go wide in sudden recognition in what you are seeing. Then walk rather hastily out of the room, building into a panic and run, keeping your face down, coz you should be ashamed at being found out. Make sure you psyche yourself up for this mood while you are waiting to be surprised....really really believe in your character. Do not over do the acting, just try to react how you think you would if you was found out with a lie in front of people. Good luck!!

Watch someone next time you see them embarassed, and watch films of people being humiliated. then watch something that makes you cringe for the people involved, like The Office or Extras. How does it make you feel? How do you react? If you're going for real method acting, set up a situation that will embarass you (like getting a friend to yell something embarassing to you in public) and see how that makes you feel: then try to recreat that feeling when you are acting.

You'd be shocked so you'd freeze for a few seconds, maybe your mouth would be opened as you inhale or gasp (but not too over the top unless its a cheesy soap you're auditioning for). Then slump a bit, hanging your head, maybe backing away from everyone slightly, wincing as the tape plays. One hand over the mouth and nose.

Use the body language that you had the last time you acted your heart out at an audition and didn't get the part.

Or act as if you farted and followed-through in the middle of a prayer in church....

Something like that.

Think of a time you were that humiliated, and think then how you would react to it. The rest should follow through naturally.
