Seriously, I love melancholic music. Blues in a minor, Van Morrison, Neil Young singing Philadelphia. Anything that touches me or brings a tear to my eye tends to fill me with joy.
Yeah, Heart Shaped Box is good

Different bummed-out mood require different music, but here's a partial list--
ABBA (I know, guilty pleasure), especially "Take a Chance"
Weird Al Yankovic--Polka's on 45, I Lost on Jeopardy, My Bologna
Beethoven--there is no piece of music more glorious than the finale of the Ninth Symphony
Bobby Darin--just try NOT singing along with "Mack the Knife"
Spike Jones--ask your parents (or grandparents)
James Brown---YEOWWWWW!!!
There's more, but I've rambled on enough.

I personally listen to let loose songs, some heavy rock or something. But sometimes when I do just wanna cry because it's good to let it all out I find myself listening to the blues, i especially love to listen to vittorio grigolo, i love his music, it calms me.

Nirvana, Heart Shaped Box, don't know why but I start with that and keep going with depressing sounding music, and suddenly the music gets happier and happier as I go, and I feel better.

Make one. i wish this helped, even a tiny bit. :D

I can't listen to music when I'm depressed......I either try to find a good show on TV, or go to sleep (if I can) to take my mind of things.
(mind you, when, during those periods of depression, I walk in the supermarket, and I hear a great song, it never fails to cheer me up a bit)

I usually try and listen to something uplifting. It's dangerous to wallow in self pity, it's unhealthy. I usually listen to Cat Stevens. He makes me think, he makes me question my life and where it's going. If I'm unhappy, I need to figure out why I'm unhappy and look for ways to change it. I'm only weak if I allow myself to be. He makes me smile and helps me realise that this world is beautiful.
