So you have the blockbusters, but you also have to add the ones that actually inspired different people in different ways:
The Brat Pack (for those in their teens): Weird Science, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo's Fire
Good memories (for the kids): The Goonies, Dark Crystal, Gremlins, Police Academy, The Boy Who Could Fly, The Last Starfighter, Stand By Me, Flight of the Navigator, Explorers
Nostalgic Horror: Nightmare on Elm Street, the Lost Boys, Friday the 13th
For the Adults: Fatal Attraction; Platoon; Flashdance; The Blues Brothers (1980)
The Humour: The Gods Must be Crazy; Uncle Buck (1989); Planes, Trains, and Automobiles; Brewster's Millions
These are some of the most fantastic films of the 80s and for me, all of the people I know were affected in some way or another by them.

You've picked some really good films there. I would certainly include:-
Once Upon a Time in America (1983)
King of Comedy (1982)
Raging Bull (1980)
Raising Arizona (1987)
Southern Comfort (1981)
Heaven's Gate (1980) - a criminally underrated film

Definitely Back to the Future, but I would also say Top Secret (1985) which is a little known but hilarious and brilliant film starring Val Kilmer and Lucy Gutteridge.

Take off the 3 overrated films: 'Rain Man', 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' and 'Top Gun' and put in 'St. Elmo's Fire', 'The Outsiders' and 'Footloose'. And never, ever, never never underestimate the entertaining power of the hilarious 'Return Of The Living Dead'!!!!!! "...THINK! We've got to THINK!..."....LOL!
