I guess I grabbed the wrong stamps at the post office - what's the difference between a regular $.39 stamp and these that I bought that just say first class on them?

The value depends on when the stamp was issued:

If it shows the Statue of Liberty in front of a flag, then it's worth 39c.

If it just shows a waving flag or if it shows antique toys, it's worth 37c and you need to add 2c in additional postage.

If it has a lily or similar flower or if it has a blue Statue of Liberty, no flag, then it's worth 34c and you need to add 5c additional postage.

This is a ridiculously long address but the answer for your question should be here. Without knowing what the stamp looks like I couldn't find a direct answer to your question. Good Luck!

If they are new, they are worth the same amount as the $.39 ones.
