I'm not speaking of screaming in terror, but little girls on through into adulthood, but not so much middle aged, or elderly women scream for no apparent reason than they get excited.
Is this something taught in recent generations as being an acceptable trait for a mature human, or is it a physiological phenominon in the female?
Little girls now SCREAM ear piercingly all the time, just to get their way, adults ignore it like it's normal; little boys also scream, but not to the extreme females do, or later in life. Women are still screaming when they get together for "chats" into their 30s! The picture shown on Yahoo Q&A apparently is of a woman over reacting and I think screaming, when you are notified of a best answer. Isn't this over the top!! LOL
Can anyone explain? Screaming for no reason helps to create the stereotype of the dizzy broad. (don't confuse screaming with yelling words at another, both male and female do their share of that, usually in anger)

Seems this is being taken as female bashing, it isn't!
I do know women who are unhygenic, or at least smell that way if you get close, and know few men who smell armpits in public, or otherwise.
To Greylady, I specifically mentioned it happening less in the more mature; I assume you and I reached the point of being grey because of some longevity.
Is their a scientific reason anyone can think of?

Hi there!

I'm a female and I know what you are saying.
We just scream when we are happy or excited.
Just one of our many "expressive" traits.
Women cry often too, for happy or sad reasons, but no one asks about that. :) Just our screaming.
By the way, we never scream for no reason. There is always something behind our screams.
It's just a "woman thing".
Take care!

How observant! You are right about parents encouraging a certain type of behaviour according to the child's gender. Many types of behaviour are socialised rather than inborn.

Another penny for your thought, why is it alright for a man to sniff at their armpits and exhibit less hygenic behaviour while it's not alright for a woman to exhibit the exact behaviour?

why do men scratch their balls in public? why do they sulk for days like little children? why cant they take a joke? why are they so emotionally retarded that they have to slap their friends on the back instead of giving them a hug?
before you start slating women, have a think about typically male behaviour, thats not terribly mature either.

and more to the point, why would an elderly man move to thailand (i wonder!)

I don't scream unless I'm warning someone of impending danger and they are out of normal earshot, rounding up our cows on our farm and that's it. Screaming just for screaming sake is something I just don't do. It's stupid. Don't crowd us under one umbrella.
